5/11/1998Three momentous events took place on the day that did the nation proud. Firstly, three underground nuclear tests at Pokhran Range in Rajasthan, which included a hydrogen bomb, were tested; secondly, the successful test firing of the 'Trishul Missile' and thirdly, the maiden Certification test flight of 'Hansa-3', the first-all Composite indigenous two seater aircraft.
4/17/1799Srirangapatnam was surrounded by British Army in the fourth and last Mysore war which began in 1798. Tipu Sultan' was killed in the battle on 4th May. The East India Company announced the Seringapatanam Medal (1799).
8/27/1952Vigyan Mandir inaugurated at Nazafgarh Road, New Delhi.

5/3/1913Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, more generally known as Dada Saheb Phalke, was responsible for the production of India's first fully indigenous silent four-reel feature film 'Raja Harishchandra' which heralded the birth of the Indian film industry. The film had titles in Hindi and English and was released on May 3, 1913 at the Coronation Cinematograph in Bombay.
8/18/1957Tilak Raj was appointed the Narcotics Commissioner of India. He headed his office for four years till 6th September, 1961.
6/16/1925Chittaranjan Das, great freedom fighter, revolutionary, orator, poet, journalist and lawyer, died.
