Panaji, May 12 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's push for a self-reliant India, saying the Rs 20 lakh crore special package announced by the PM would spur economic growth in India.

"PM Narendra Modi has rightly said that India should aim for self-reliance. The Rs 20 lakh crore package will spur economic growth of the country during the pandemic," Sawant said in a statement.

Goa BJP president Sadanand Shet Tanavade also said that by announcing the package, Modi had shown that his economic vision had "empathy for all segments of the society and will revitalise our nation's resolve towards self-reliance and development".

The Prime Minister on Tuesday announced stimulus measures which will take the total amount announced by the Ministry of Finance and the RBI to Rs 20 lakh crore or 10 per cent of the GDP.
