Nutritional Values Of Dates:
Dates are an excellent source of easily digested carbohydrates, with a sugar content that ranges from about 60-70 percent.
Dates are an excellent source of fiber ( 8 grams per 3 1/2 ounces); the B vitamins niacin, B6, riboflavin, thiamine, and pantothenic acid; and the minerals copper, potassium, manganese, madnesium, iron, and phosphorus.
In addition, they are good source of folic acid and the trace minerals, zinc, selenium.
For each ounce, dates provide 260 percent more potassium than oranges and 64 percent more potassium than bananas...but they also contain 60 percent more calories than either of these fruits.
Health Benefits Of Dates:
Dates are among the most alkaline of foods and contain a special type of soluble fiber called beta-D-glucan and it has been shown to decrease the body's absorption of cholesterol and to slow or delay absorption of glucose in t he small intestine, thus helping to keep blood sugar levels even.
Recent laboratory studies reveal that dates are also surprisingly rich in antioxidant and anticancer compounds. Dates extract was found to prevent free-radical damage to both fats and protein in a dose-dependent manner...the higher the concentration, the greater the protection against free radicals.
